Vampire Chronicle is not Scart compatible.

Vampire Chronicle was a limited release of 5000, available via direct order only. So if you can get yourself a copy then do so. Vampire Chronicle is a combination of all the Vampire/Darkstalker games, but uses the Vampire Savior graphics and backgrounds.

When you first start the game you choose beween ''Vampire, Hunter, and Savior'', this modifies the ' game engine to reflect one of the three games. This features is most notable in how the life bars refil or lack of in the Vampire setup. Also as the games progressed the characters were given new moves which altered their combo damage levels. There was a sequel to Vampire Savior [only available in japan] the additions were added to the sega saturn version of Vampire Savior, which admittedly is still the best version as it featured English win quotes.

The Graphics play second best to the sega saturn version as the game is only playable through S-VHS, or AV. The lack of SCART compatibility is felt by the slight haziness of the graphics and blurring that occurs on areas of large colour. All the characters in Vampire Chronicles were hand drawn then coloured on computer, this gives a uniqueness to the game and is a pleasant change from the norm.

Sound is where you get some benefit as all the bg sounds have been included [depending on what type you play]. The announcer shouting 'yeaah' and 'monnnsterr' has never sounded better.

You can open up the EX options screen (hold L+R, press A or start) and once inside can choose select all kinds of goodies from superbars, move lag, and the ability to see ALL the intros from ALL the games! In VS mode, you can change the Backgound stages color (hold start when selecting BG). You can also play as Oboro Bishamon (hold start when selecting him), Shadow (highlight ? then press start 5 times then any button), and Marionnete (highlight ? then press start 7 times then any button). So effectively EVERY secret' from the previous games is in here, minus the old Backgounds were in here.

You can forget about the online play as that is for Japanese only, but overall it is an impressive package which only falls down on a couple of aspects. The first being the lack of SCART compatibility, and the second being the lack of any English winning quotes. Ignoring those two features you do get Baby Bonnie Hood, or Bulleta as we are in Japane-o-name-a-rama here, who does just so happen to be the best Capcom character they have ever created.

Due to the limited availability Vampire Chronicles should be picked up by anyone who has an interest in Capcom fighting games, which is, lets face it, EVERY DREAMCAST OWNER!
