My personal site has been going since 1996, however the site existed before that date in many different locations. The first site was created with the standard AOL tools and consisted of nothing more than a few street fighter pictures, but as the months passed new additions were added to the site. At one stage the site looked really good [for an aol one] anyway.

Since AOL limited you to only a few mb's I decided to move the site to the members area on tripod.com. Now tripod use to be very good, the advertising was still present, but well designed so it could be incorporated into your site. Below is what the site looked like in its 1998 tripod days.

For a while I loved the frames layout, as it gave access to all the sites content for the visitor. Previously I had relied upon using buttons, but as the content increase it proved harder to have all the buttons looking nice on every page.
